Merriweather's box

Ornate gold box

Small, gilded box shaped like a sarcophagus and about the size of a deck of cards. It is covered in lacquered hieroglyphs, possibly of Egyptian origin. There is no lock, but it does have a slide catch to keep the lid closed. Overall, the box looks very old but is in remarkable condition.

The inside of the box belies that it is constructed of wood. Strange symbols not matching those on the exterior are carved into the underside of the lid. The bottom is felted, but it is otherwise empty.
